Hermosa Beach Plaza celebrates with live music outdoors: Lou Giovannetti and his Big Band from 8:30 p.m. until 1:30 a.m.  Free!  More info  here

 Universal City Walk celebrates with a DJ Dance Party 12/30/11 from 7:00-10:00 p.m., a NYE spectacular complete with fireworks at midnight on 12/31/11 from 9 pm - 12:30 am, and an all new Holiday Light and Music Show on 1/1/12 from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. Free except for the crazy expensive parking.

Long Beach  Rainbow Harbor and Pine Ave from 1st to 3rd, Linden and 1st St: from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. There will be a free family-friendly party on the waterfront with music and trackless train rides culminating in 9 pm fireworks celebrating New Year on the East Coast.
